Taking a break from your regularly scheduled program

I have been working on editing my book, yet again. It is amazing how much better things turn out when rewritten, or are grammatically correct, but I digress.

In the meantime as well I am writing a short story in the universe of the Here-After. A short story that doesn’t follow the paladin brothers, but exists with a similar timeline.

The reasoning is two-fold. 1) To submit to short story magazines and sites. Give my name a little more oomph behind it, ya know. 2) To write more morally ambiguous characters.

I want a world that feels believable, yet that shows the values of a morally just society. Yet, a Utopia this is not. There are still people out there with a moral compass that lands firmly on their nose, and anything beyond that is not much of their concern. Some feel justified in their actions, “gotta survive,” others because they believe if they don’t, “someone else will.”

What they are doing or not doing, but “someone else will,” runs the gamut. From usury, to smuggling, to cheating, and onward to more seriously violent things.

These are the people that believe “might makes right.” Are they right? I do not believe in the long run - time, of course, will tell. But are their actions understandable? Most definitely.

I’ll let you know when and where you can find the short story.
