Letting my mind wander

A wise man once said, “Not all who wander are lost.”

This is true, but I’m not sure how true it is when my mind wanders. Try as I might, there are places, meetings, and discussions that I find myself in that my mind wanders to my manuscripts.

I come up with new details, maybe a way to conquer a literary corner I painted myself into. Or worse… I come up with a brand new idea that I have to work through details and try and remember so that when I get to my computer or notepad I write all the specifics.

It creates many opportunities for me to respond with the phrase, “I’m sorry, can you repeat that?”

I pray that these books become a thing because the amount of mental energy that goes into them may get me, or has gotten me, into hot water.

I’m sure other writers find themselves in similar situations, but hopefully they are getting paid to wander.
