So why AI art

Those with a keen eye will notice a chunk of AI generated art on my website.

This is by design and a placeholder for the eventual art that will be commissioned, or has been commissioned. As noted in my previous post I hit the end of my first book ready for the world to see it, but the world gave me various rude hand gestures. The world grabbed me by the front of my shirt, lifted me off my feet, and stole my lunch money while whispering in my ear, “You really thought it would be that easy?”

I was thinking, prior to the wake-up call, that I would work with a publisher to get art, set up a page, and make myself look good for the Author head-shot. So when I found myself in the realm of self-marketing, I was not surprised to find out that my graphical artistic talent is reminiscent of a man who recently suffered a stroke. And while my mother would definitely put them up on the fridge, no one else would have appreciated them.

I am old enough to have had a myspace page. That is right kiddos, I’m that old. VCR old. And back then people had to grab images anywhere they could find them to put on their page. Outside of the obvious pictures of themselves. AI art is the modern day equivalent of that.

I have the utmost respect for the graphical artists and can’t wait to work with some to get my fantastical world and creatures drawn out for the public to see… time, and money, are the issues. It will happen, just not as soon as I need to be able to start “marketing” myself.

You see, no matter the prompts, no matter the crazy amount of my (poorly drawn) art I uploaded, the AI art programs could not make something new. It fails in creativity. It can only make slight variations of what came before, not make something wholly new. And the world of the Here-After, while a far, far version of earth, is wildly different. The creatures in my book have almost no equivalent… making for generic outcomes when attempting to be made with AI generated art.

The AI world is fascinating, but it is not a replacement for human creativity. I see it as a tool, not a replacement.
